There's no easy answer for this question.
Usually, renters and fire insurance policies are either "All Risk" or "Named Peril" policies. "All Risk" policies cover all accidental damage, except specifically excluded losses. "Named Peril" policies only cover losses due to certain causes ("perils"), such as fire, wind, vandalism, or theft.
Regardless of the type of policy, you can usually expect that only direct losses that cause actual, physical damage to your property will be considered. Policies will not cover damage due to wear and tear or deterioration, or damage that occurs over a period of time (such as dry rot). Normally policies also exclude claims for specific catastrophe-caused loss, such as earthquake or flood. Keep in mind that if you are insured for a catastrophe common in your area, you're likely to have a substantially higher deductible for losses caused by the catastrophe.
All eRenterPlan policies are "Named Peril" and generally provide replacement cost protection for your personal belongings including clothing, electronics, furniture, jewelry and other personal items in the event they are damaged fire, water, smoke, and theft.
